"sun 21" sets world record!
The "sun21" was awarded by the Guinness World Records for the fastest transatlantic crossing made completely under solar power. In 29 days, the "sun21" crossed the atlantic ocean from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria to Le Marin, Martinique in February 2007.
At the moment, the boat still lies to anchor at the harbour, waiting for authentication of the Spanish maritime authority.
Arrivée historique du "sun21" dans le port de New York
Le "sun21" est un catamaran de 14 mètres de long, propulsé exclusivement par l’énergie solaire. Durant l’hiver 2006/2007, le navire a entrepris la première traversée motorisée de l’Atlantique sans une goutte de combustible. Ce nouveau record du monde servira à prouver le grand potentiel de la technologie solaire dans la navigation. Le "sun21" est arrivé le 8 mai 2007 à 3 heures de l'après-midi à New York (North Cove Marina, Battery Park City). Il a alors parcouru 7000 milles marins. L'aventure du "sun21" a été rendue possible par l'association transatlantic21. L'assiciation a ensuite offert le catamaran solarie au WWF Adena/Madrid, où l'embarcation sera utilisée pour des recherches.
